Today I am going to show you how to make a shadow box using the
SBKC December Main Kit and the
SBKC December Cardstock Add On Kit.

For this project you are going to need:
1 sheet of the Bazzill String of Pearls Bling Cardstock (Add-On)
1 sheet of Snow White Wash Felt (Main)
1 vintage gift tag (Main)
1 bottle of Antique White Crafters Paint (Main)
1 yard of Lace (Main)
3 chipboard snow flakes (Main)
1 bottle of Frosted Lace Stickles (not included in either kit)
1 copy of the Prima Hybrid Helper Candy Box template

Click on the image of the Prima template to enlarge. Save to your computer and open in your photo editing software where you should be able to alter the size. I can no longer find the direct link for you to be able to download this template so hopefully this will work for you if you don't already have the template saved on your computer.
1. Print a copy of the Prima template and cut out just the outside of the template. They have included lines to cut out a window, but you will want to change the window size based on the size of the tag you are using. For this box I used a large tag so I wanted the window to be larger than the template had marked off so I measured it off leaving about a 1/4 inch edge around the window.
For the Santa Shadow Box I cut the tag down quite a bit so I used a Technique Tuesday scroll frame as a template for my window. Use this window as a chance to get creative and come up with a design that you like.

Another change I made (a few steps into the process) was to cut off the rounded tab at the top of the box. I don't need to open and close my box and I don't want to risk the tab being seen from the window. So if you are going to have a large window and will not need to open and close your box then I would suggest you cut it off now. You can always wait until you are ready to glue your box shut if you want.
2. Once you have marked off the window the way you want it go ahead and cut it out. Now take your template and lay it on the back side of your Bazzill bling cardstock and trace. Make sure you note which lines need to be cut and which lines need to be folded following the guide on your template.

3. Once you have everything marked off go ahead and cut out the box form from the cardstock.

4. Using the lines you marked off earlier go ahead and score the box on the fold lines.

This is what it looks like from the inside of the box.

5. Grab you tag and start embellishing. For this tag I decided to remove the ribbon and cut off the bottom which read "A Merry Christmas." I then used the Frosted Lace stickles on the top and sides of the tag. I set that aside to dry and moved on to the bottom of the tag which will now become a banner for the box.

6. I distressed the edges of the banner and the wadded it up a few times to get it nice and crinkly.

7.Using your edge distressor or a pair of scissors lightly distress the outside edge of your window. Grab your lace and cut it into for lengths to match the top, sides, and bottom of the window. Glue the lace to the back side (inside the box) of the window so that 3/4 of the lace is hanging over the opening. Here's what it will look like from the inside of the box...

and here's what it will look like from the outside...

8. While that's drying grab your snowflakes and paint them using the white crafters paint. This dries fairly quickly, but you can speed up the drying time if you use your heat embosser. I decided to set it aside and move on to the next step.

9. Grab your felt and cut a rectangle to match the width of the back of the inside of the box. Now cut two strips to make the snow drifts. One with a large mound in the middle and one with two smaller mounds on either side. Layer and glue in place.

10. Now that the snowflakes are dry it's time to make them sparkle by adding a little stickles.

11. Set the snowflakes aside to dry and grab your tag. Make sure the stickles you added earlier are dry before continuing. Position the tag on the back of the inside of the box so that you can easily see the tag from the window. Once you found your desired position glue it down. Add the felt snow drifts to the bottom of the tag and enhance with stickles. Let that dry before moving on to the next step.

12. The inside of the box is done so flip it over and we'll start working on the outside. Grab your banner and position it across the front of the window making sure that it doesn't cover up the focal point of your tag. Glue it in place.

13. Remember that ribbon we took off the tag? Go ahead and grab it, we're going to use it to make a hanger for the box. Glue one end of the ribbon down to the inside of the top flap of the box. Measure off just enough ribbon to be able to hang the box from a tree and then cut the ribbon. Glue the last end to the other side of the inside top flap.

14. Glue the box together. Start with the two small tabs on the side at the bottom of the box and glue them to the larger tab on the bottom back of the box. Glue the large tab at the bottom front of the box over the tabs you just glued. Now slide the small tab on the side of the box under the side edge of the box. All that's left is the top. Glue it the same way you did the bottom.
15. Now that your box is glued together it's time to embellish. I waited until this point to glue on the snowflakes so I could see the overall result before committing to a location. I also decided to add a little tree a few days after finishing this project.
